Finding a Christmas Tree Farm

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hikingartist/

Thanksgiving is over, which means it is now time to decorate for the remainder of the holidays to come. Everybody celebrates the holidays differently, but if Christmas trees are your flavor, this post is for you.

A lot of people put their trees up the day after Thanksgiving. And a lot of people say they’re going to put their tree up the day after. If you’re amongst the latter group, maybe it’s time to go check out one of Portland’s many tree farms. If you come across a parking lot tree sale, great; if you want a fake tree, awesome. But tree farms can be a lot of fun, especially for kids. So here’s a list of some of the closest tree farms to Portland.

Quail Creek Ranch – This family-run farm is host to more than 20 acres of Noble Firs, Douglas Firs, Grand Firs, Frasier Firs, Nordman Firs, Turkish Firs, and Serbian Spruce Christmas trees.  Quail Creek also offers free coffee, cocoa, and cider. They’re open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Sauvie Island Farms – This is a third generation farm, owned by the Egger family. Located on, you guessed it, Sauvie Island, they offer a wide range of u-pick items, and from now until December 21st they’re also doing Christmas trees.

Helvetia Christmas Tree Farm – Also locally owned, the Helvetia Christmas Tree Farm offers Nobles, Nordmans, and Grands. They’ve been around for more than 25 years.

Beaverton Holiday U-Cut Tree Farm – U-Cut has been in business since 1978 and they have about 5000 trees on more than 5 acres.

Loch Lolly Christmas Tree Forest – Sitting on 28 acres, Loch Lolly offers both u-cut and pre-cut trees. They’re a little further outside of Portland, but with that much space, they’re probably worth checking out.

Little Boxes Black Friday Treat

There’s long been a stigma that big retail chains are cheaper and more convenient to shop than local stores; but that’s not the case here in Portland—at least not anymore. When you shop around local retail stores you quickly realize, not only are you getting great deals, but also you’re getting truly unique items. Black Friday is also not exclusive to major retailers and local businesses are doing their best to compete. Enter Little Boxes PDX.

Little Boxes is a Black Friday and Saturday event throughout Portland that encourages people to shop local. There will be a raffle, and the more shops you visit the more chances you have to win. This sounds like a fantastic event and a great way to get people shopping where it really counts. Go experience your Portland.

For details go check out the Little Boxes website (if you haven’t already clicked my link above.) Hope to see you out.
